There are two shopping malls in Lucena City, SM City Lucena and Pacific Mall. The latter was the first to be built and quickly made a name for having a different approach to attract people to its place. Compared to SM City Lucena, it is a tad smaller and not as organized. It is somewhat chaotic, seeing the jeepney and tricycle terminals mixed within a portion of the parking lot. But still, a lot of people go to this place for four different reasons: Metro Gaisano Department Store, Foreign Affairs and Statistics Offices, tiangge style stalls and accessibility of the mall as it is located in the town proper. The presence of this shopping center is a sign of progress and is very much welcomed by the city dwellers.
Although it looks like an eyesore, the overcrowding of vehicles along the terminals has a positive effect among commuters. Just a step right out of the mall are jeeps, vans and tricycles ready to serve commuters. Few guards are assigned to the parking lots which are usually turned into ‘perya’ during Christmas Season and summer. Occasionally, events are also held at the parking lot such as parade, cheering competitions and concerts.
Inside this mall, you can purchase more than a few stuffs as many items on the 2nd and 3rd level are easy on the pocket. Even for just a few bucks you may be able to dress yourself from head to toe or get a fancy cell phone from one of the stalls on the tiangge-style format of the middle spaces of the mall. A lot of products on display look like bootlegs which could explain as to how low the cost of some goods are advertised. Second rate quality phones and used phones can be bought or swapped in some merchandisers. But still, good quality products can also be had in most stores lined up along the sides of Pacific Mall so you have a mixed deal of stores to choose from.
On its 1st level, having meal at the Food Plaza, the counterpart of SM’s Food Court, is like comfortably eating at your own house with a TV to watch placed at the center of the area. However, plenty of other eateries such as fast food chains, restaurants or food stands are around the 1st level.
Within the 2nd level, mostly gadget repairers and Muslim vendors surround the entire floor. Amreach Travels and Tours, money changers, salons, massage parlour and dental clinic somehow provide convenience for those who might need their service. People could also shop at the floor’s shoppers’ lane with loads of different low-priced clothes and shoes, bags, accessories and perfumes. A factory outlet selling house wares and clothes is beside Abenson Appliance Center. For the children, Pacific Mall recommends you Roma Amor to buy stuffed toys and dolls or Kidz Along store for children’s wear. There are also computer shops, imaging booths and LBC and bookstore.
Neighbors from other cities in CALABARZON travel to Lucena, especially at Pacific Mall to get visa application since the Department of Foreign Affairs and National Statistics Office are located at its 3rd level. Arcade games and movies are also available at this level. A multipurpose stage for presentations is set up in the middle of this floor.
Metro Gaisano, on the other hand is like a department store and supermarket in one. On the 1st floor, Supermarket, Men’s Wear, mini food court and pharmacy takes up much of the space. Vacant spaces are not to be seen in this area as every space is maximized to show their merchandise.
On its 2nd level, ladies clothes, shoes, children’s section, watches and jewellery are located.
On the 3rd level, you can see home furniture, appliances, sporting goods, bags, house decorations and a coffee shop.
Pacific Mall with Metro Gaisano is not the best place to shop but you get the beauty of two concepts in one roof. The inconveniences of being less organized won’t appeal to everyone but if you live nearby chances are you’ll spend a lot of time in this mall. And against walking your way to shop at the city’s town proper it’s hard to miss the advantages of this place over Lucena’s own Bayan.
