Let's Play BAD!

I have always been a fan of badminton since its initial boom in the metro. But only in the year 2004 did I get to play the sport because there are no commercial badminton courts in Lucena City before that year.

Today there are 3 playing areas in Lucena City open to the public, Lucena Grand Badminton Center - LGBC, Team Badminton Courts and Lucena Holistic Gym and Spa. Being a member of Lucena Badminton Club, I am a frequent player at LGBC where the club members regularly meet. LGBC is located at the 2nd floor of Lucena Grand Terminal. LGBC has 4 cement courts. No Taraflex. No wood. Lighting is average and the ceiling is a bit low for badminton play but I love the place for two reasons, my friends are always there and food is abundant downstairs. Its real strength though is the queuing system as it appears that you can easily get a match with someone close to your level of game in LGBC than in any other courts.

Team Badminton Courts or Team Bad is the nearest to where I live. Situated at Maharlika Highway, Barangay Isabang it has 3 wood courts and 4 cement courts. The place is well ventilated and the lights are good. Vertical clearance is friendly to moon shots and the wood courts are even friendlier to the knees. Team Bad is the place to play on weekends being the only court with lots of players even on Saturdays and Sundays.

Lucena Holistic Spa and Gym or simply Holistic can be found at Quezon Avenue Extension near PLDT and Meralco offices. It is the only playing area with 3 Taraflex courts. Lighting is good and the ceiling is high but its ventilation needs improvement. It is the only court in the town proper. Located at the 4th floor of a building that also houses an air-conditioned gym, spa and café, Holistic has the fewest regular patrons.

All of the courts mentioned above have its strengths and weaknesses but badminton in any place provides an enjoyable way to get some sweat.

A friend of mine opened a badminton court in Sariaya, Quezon located near Saint Francis Academy. It's a nice place. Food is good too.
